hose are the teo most recent movies I've seen, both in 3d.
AntMan was ok, pretty good for a superhero movie, which I usually don't go for. Superhero movies, IMO, should stick to action and comedy and avoid attempts at pathos and personal drama, bc I think iit ends up usually being laughable. In this case, hysterical..like when Michael Douglas' character is explaining to his daughter how her mother died.
"Your mother went subatomic.."
UM..HAHAHAHAHAHA. That will go down as the single dumbest line MD has ever had to say, "One Night At McCool's" included. Although it should be a great trending punchline/catchphrase. I don't think Marvel meant for that scene to be so unintentionally funny, but it was. Otherwise, it was a pretty engaging movie with great effects and a good pace.
"Pixels" I just wanted to go have fun at the movies. Having played and loved all those 80's arcade games when I was a kid, I thought the premise of aliens misinterpreting their glimpse of Galaga and PacMan etc, and viewing it as an intergalactic declaration of war, was a fun one. But, it is an Adam Sandler movie, co-starring Kevin James, so I knew it was probably (ha) going to suck.
The script is lazy and lame, the dialogue is stilted, and as usual lately, Adam Sandler sleepwalks through his role unless he is fighting the space invaders. Out of the whole cast, the only saving grace really is Peter Dinklage, who plays a delusionally conceited sleazebag/rival gamer. He is hilarious.
The special effects are pretty fab, and that is really the reason to go see this. They had Sandler and gang fighting off every character from every 80's arcade game you can think of and the battle scenes were really well done and convincing.
Great SFX, terrible movie.
