A prominent critic of President Obama, who claims that president’s birth certificate is a fraud and a forgery, is now stating that Sen. Ted Cruz is ineligible to run for president because he was born in Canada, reports Right Wing Watch.
Speaking on Blog Talk Radio, former Arizona sheriff Richard Mack said that, although he likes the Texas senator, his foreign birth precludes him from serving as Commander in Chief.
In response to a caller who stated that the Constitution bars the Canadian-born Cruz from being president, Mack agreed.
“That is correct, I try to say that to a lot of people. Ted Cruz cannot run for president of the United States,” he said. “I like Ted, I’ve met him several times and he’s kind of a friend of mine, but he can’t run for president.”
Like the president, Cruz was born to an American mother and a foreign-born father. Unlike Obama, Cruz was born outside the United States, leading some to believe that he is not eligible to run for highest office in the land since he is not a “natural born citizen,” as required by Article Two in the Constitution.
